RANDOM WORD / IMAGE ASSOCIATION

RANDOM WORD/IMAGE ASSOCIATION ?

Our lecturer told us this topic is interesting but complicated topic. Well i think we all can get it after the lecture. Random Association is a random word technique, the most basic and creative way to generate new ideas. In this technique, random word are used to solve a problem. By forcing ourself to create a solution from a random word, we will be able to generate more ideas from different directions. In conclusion, this technique is a good way to force us generate ideas.

There are 3 step involve in this method.
1) Discover
First, in finding solution, write down anything that come in your mind when thinking about this problem.Yes,is anything! And stated down your problem as well.
2) Finding Associate
Try to relate each random word that written down, to your problem.
3) Use associate to create new idea
Start apply random word and problem to find solution.

The example that given :

Problems: How to train 3 students to become Creative Studies tutors in 6 months time

Random words: Monkey

From monkey, try to ellobrate things about monkey that we thought.

The ideas,

  • Zoo
  • Banana
  • Tail

Start to associate 1st idea to problem by describe about zoo:

No animals like to be in captivity

In practice:

Close students in a limited area for 6 months and forced them to do revision again and again.

2nd idea, is about banana:

Monkey like to be rewarded with banana

In practice:

Reward students with something that value in order to motivate them to achieve desire target.

3rd idea, is about tail:

Monkey dosen’t like play with its tail

In practice:

Dont stress student with a lot of assignment. Always motivate student how to score for this subject.

Task given,

Problem : create something in a dangerous area so that the people in many years ago will never go nearby.

Random word : cat

From cat, i can think about :

  • Fur
  • Claw
  • Scary eyes
  • 'Meow' sound
The idea i choose is CLAW

Cats have claws that can hurt people.

In practice :

Create something that really sharp and can never remove then place around the area.

Juxtaposition

what will happen when merges go wrong?

Ya, that right! The topic for this lesson is JUXTAPOSITION...

Juxtaposition can be defined as placing two variable, side by side and their contrast or similarity are shown through comparison. Many creative processes rely on juxtaposition. By juxtaposing two objects or words next to each other, human brain will automatically associate or transfer meaning. Usually ‘turning’ something familiar to something less familiar or vice-versa. _from lecturer's notes.

Well, the task that been given to us is we've to refer to a image and create a passage or writing that describe a concept of something.

LOVE is like chili
It's hot,
and it's an excitement!

My LOVE for you is like a chili
Spicy up your life till the end of my life

PAIN will never go permanently
It will be forgotten as the time goes by,
like an ice-cream will melt by times

Human's LIFE are full of
Pretending
Fakes
&
Hypocritical

Times go and fly
but the HAPPINESS between us will never die

Mind Mapping

[ MIND MAPPING ]

Today lesson is all about mind mapping. I've learned that mind mapping can divided into 2 type,
- logical mind map : related to subject-stereotype.
- associated mind map : normally out of topic or title.

Class exercise....
The objective of this exercise, we need to use information on associated mind map and create a function of mortar & pestle. we've to imagine that we are people form 2000010 year and think of what are the uses of mortar and pestle in 2010, then choose 3 words below and draw out something related.

Below are my ugly drawing :

1. SOUND - as a music instrumental (drum)
2. GAMES - baseball
3. CHINA - chinese acrobatics

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

The 2nd class for creative studies..In this lesson,we've learned about

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

Novelty- Novelty is the quality of being new. This is a mental process, that discover a new ideas , concepts and styles.

Creativity-
Creativity is the mental process where a person discover a new thinking and fresh ideas. It also an ability to imagine a new ways, style and innovative ideas.

Innovation- Innovation is a creation (a new devices or process) resulting from study and experimentation. It also the creation of something in the mind.

Invention- Invention is a new composition, device or process. An invention may be derived from a pre-existing model or idea.

references: Google definition

NOVELTY
Novelty that is derived from Latin word novem for "new" is the quality of being new. Although it may be said to have an objective dimension example a new style of art coming into being, such as abstract art or impressionism, it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals.
CREATIVITY
Creativity is define as the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity involves two processes : thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of an idea. If you have ideas, but don't act on them, you are imaginative but not creative.
INNOVATION
Innovation is a new way of doing something. It may refer to incremental and emergent or radical and revolutionary changes in thinking, products, processes or organizations.
INVENTION
An invention is the discovery or creation of a new material (either a new manufactured product or a new composition or matter), a new process, a new use for an existing material, or any improvements of any of these.

Exercise given before the class end...

This is the two of Co-Founder and President of Google
A short brief about them..
  • Sergey Brin and Larry Page are the two co-founders of the internet search engine Google. The two met at Stanford University in the 1990s where they were both attending graduate school. Together, they ended up collaborating on a paper titled The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine. Eventually, this paper would lead Brin and Page to launch the Google search engine in 1998.

In 1998 Brin and Page officially opened up for business, the two of them working out of a garage in Menlo Park, California. At that time, there were already a number of other search engines on the market. The paper that Brin and Page had worked on previously at Stanford contained the conceptual foundation which set Google apart from the competition at that time: The idea of ranking search results by analyzing the number of times each site had been linked to from another site. Additionally,Google was different in that it had a very minimalistic site, as it continues to have today.

The two figured that if a site was linked on a number of other sites, then it was more likely than not a relevant search item and thus should be ranked higher than others. Shortly after opening their first office in the Menlo garage, around 1999 Brin and Page launched their search engine on the internet. Since that time, it has continued to rise in popularity and mainstream use.

    Original Ideas

One of the original ideas that Sergey Brin and Larry Page both developed for use at Google was thePageRank algorithm. This algorithm is the cornerstone of Google's success. In 1996, the first version of Google was launched on Stanford's servers, and in 1998 the two partners founded their company and officially named it Google, Inc. The term "Google" is intended to be similar to "googol". "Googol" is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros.

Their idea of 20 Percent Time enables and encourages Google's workers to spend up to 1/5th of their time working on and developing other projects that interest them most. This idea of Google founders Brin and Page has resulted in many successful projects over the years.

AdSense and AdWords was another Google idea that has paid huge dividends. Using an algorithm similar in nature to the one use with their PageRank idea, Google is able to generate website-based advertisements on the fly that are also relevant to the page in question.

So what does Creativity mean??

"Creativity is not the finding of a thing, but the making something out of it after it is found."
--James Russell Lowell

"Creativity becomes more visible when adults try to be more attentive to the cognitive processes of children than to the results they achieve in various fields of doing and understanding."
--Loris Malaguzzi

According to Chambers dictionary, the definiton of creativity is "state or quality of being creative", which doesn't tell us much. The word "create" is defined as meaning, amongst other things:
"to bring into being or form out of nothing; to bring into being by force of imagination"
Creativity is the bringing into being of something which did not exist before, either as a product, a process or a thought.
You would be demonstrating creativity if you:
  • Invent something which has never existed before
  • Invent something which exists elsewhere but you are not aware of
  • Invent a new process for doing something
  • Reapply an existing process or product into a new or different market
  • Develop a new way of looking at something (bringing a new idea into existence)
  • Change the way someone else looks at something
In fact, we are all creative every day because we are constantly changing the ideas which we hold about the world about us. Creativity does not have to be about developing something new to the world, it is more to do with developing something new to ourselves. When we change ourselves, the world changes with us, both in the way that the world is affected by our changed actions and in the changed way that we experience the world.

Creativity can be used to make products, processes and services better and it can be used to create them in the first place. It is expected that increasing your creativity will help you, your organization and your customers become happier through improvements in your quality and quantity of output.

Is creativity important?
ermm..i think ya! I think creativity is one of the most important things in the world because if each person did not have creativity then you would see everything the same. Each person has there own type of creativity and that is why there are unique art, movies, clothing, hair styles, etc. Be creative !
